How I got my clarity back
It's the day after Thanksgiving. Have you waken from the turkey-induced coma yet? :-)

The other day, I woke up from a really bad dream. Usually I forget what I dream about as soon as I wake up. But, this time the dream was so real and vivid that I woke up with such an unsettling, upset feeling. I knew the dream wasn't real, but, I couldn't help but wonder what that dream signafies.

I called up my good friend Christina, hoping her intuition would give me some insight and reassurance. But, she was not available. I needed to get my clarity and inner peace back ASAP for the day's work.

So, it's all up to me now. I decided to take a few moment to center myself. I filled the ultrasonic essential oil diffuser with distilled water and the therapeutic-grade essential oils Frankincense, Lavender and White Angelica. I use different combinations of oils every day, depending on my moods and what my gut feelings tell me is needed for me. For that day, I chose those oils because I knew they could help me calm my nerve, center myself, and create a protective feeling. I also applied White Angelica around my energetic field. Then I looked for Clarity oil to help clear my head. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found. Is that ironic or what?! Where's Clarity when I needed it the most? It probably got lost when I showed it at a recent stress management workshop. Sometimes I let my workshop participants try on some of my favorite Young Living essential oils such as Peace and Calming, Clarity, Joy, Lavender, Peppermint. The oils are very effective stress relief tools that I regularly use for myself and for my clients.

Anyway, since I couldn't find the Clarity oil, I remembered that I just bought an oil blend called Gathering. According to the product description, Gathering "helps overcome the chaotic energy that bombards our everyday life and clouds our focus, ... combines galbanum and frankincense oils from resins used by Moses for incense with sandalwood to help gather our emotional and spiritual forces so we can achieve greater unity of purpose." Hmm, it sounded like just the perfect oil to use. So, I applied this oil on my temples and back of my neck.

Next, I found the Tibetan singing bowl meditation on my iPod and sat down, cross-legged, on my sofa. By now, my living room is infused with Frankincense, Lavender and White Angelica from the oil diffuser, and the oils I applied on myself had started taking effect as well. The Tibetan singing bowl, on top of the oils, put me into an extremely tranquil, centered and grounded state. I could feel the sound wave vibrating as if it was breaking up all the "gunk" energy around me, and I felt lighter and more relaxed. Ah, it was such a wonderful feeling. It's really hard to describe. I felt totally at peace.

By the time the singing bowl stopped (I played the track twice, so it was about 20 minutes), I opened my eyes, the unsettling feelings were gone. I felt the "inner smile" coming from inside of me. My head was clear and I was ready to start the day.

P.S. Oftentimes, you might be stressed because you are overwhelmed by the chaotic energy surrounding you, and bombarded by the non-stop demands from others. Instead of trying to work harder and faster (which stresses you out further more), try to pause and center yourself first. Whether you practice meditation or not, spending a few quiet moments to clear your head can make a huge difference in your stress level and productivity.

P.P.S. In case you are wondering about the oils I used for my meditation, they are therapeutic-grade essential oils by Young Living, which was founded by D. Gary Young. As one of the pioneers in essential oils research, D. Gary Young also devotes his passion in D. Gary Young Foundation, helping those in need in the humanitarian projects spearheaded by the foundation, as well as through the numerous donations made to other worthy organizations.

Sushi and Other Unusual Thanksgiving Experiences
In an attempt to simplify our Thanksgiving celebration, I tried to sell my kids the idea of Thanksgiving sushi. My intention is to have a joyful, stress-free and effortless Thanksgiving. I want to enjoy time with my family without the hard work. To be honest, I'm not that into turkeys, and just plain not interested in spending hours cooking one. I'm specially not fond of the experience of having turkey leftovers for weeks (since none of us eats much turkey). I figure, all four of us LOVE sushi, and it's simple and low in fat. Why not?

We actually had sushi for Thanksgiving one year. We went to an all-you-can-eat Japanese sushi and seafood buffet and had a wonderful meal. However, when we got home, we were surprised to find that the power in our neighborhood went out. It was a frigid cold night with severe windchill. It was obvious that we couldn't stay warm at home without electricity. Luckily, we have a good friend living nearby, and when we called her, she urged us to join them. They were just getting ready for their Thanksgiving dinner, which was authentic Chinese beef noodle soup. So, thanks to the unexpected power outage, we had great food, great friends, and a great time!

Fastforward to this year. As I offered sushi as an alternative to turkey, I was surprised by their response. My daughter doesn't care that much, but my son actually was looking forward to having a traditional turkey dinner with ALL the trimmings. He also really loves sushi too. So, when I offered sushi, he wanted BOTH sushi and turkey for Thanksgiving! I thought, oh, great, I was trying to simplify and you want MORE. LOL

So, my husband and I decided we'll still have a traditional turkey dinner, but, since I don't want to cook one, we would just order the dinner.

Then, another pleasant surprise. When I called my little sis the day before Thanksgiving to chat, she asked me if we had any plans and invited us over. Her in-laws and her husband's aunt's whole family were coming to have Thanksgiving dinner, so we found ourselves a part of this big Thanksgiving feast.

I'm not joking about a "feast". On top of a golden-roasted turkey, my sister's mother-in-law brought a full Chinese dinner including prawns, lobsters, fish, Peiking duck, etc. We also had crab cakes, quiché, mashed potatoes, salad, and my nephew's birthday cake. I LOVE seafood, especially lobsters and crabs. I was in heaven with all these great foods, enjoying great company and wonderful conversations. We chatted and laughed, and the kids had a blast with their cousins too!

Remember my intention? I got more than I asked for! My Thanksgiving is joyful, stress-free AND effortless. I'm SO grateful for my dear family, my sister, her family and her in-laws.

Organized Stress-Free Holiday Teleclass Recording
I spoke at The Junior League of Morristown the other night on the topic of "A Prescription for a Stress-Free Holiday". For those of you who are not familiar with this organization, it's a women's group focusing on community service. With the holidays just around the corner (can you believe Thanksgiving is next week?!!), many people are stressed out. The ladies in the audience greatly enjoyed my presentation -- they appreciated the tips & strategies I taught, as well as the essential oils (Peace and Calming, Tranquil) I passed around to help them relax and breathe a little better.

Therapeutic-grade essential oils have been researched by many mainstream medical institutes (including NIH) and universities for their effects on stress reduction as well as health & healing. They help you decrease the stress hormones in your body and reverse the sympathetic nervous system overdrive (the fight or flight reflex) within minutes, or even seconds. They are one of the most effective stress relief tools I've found. You can find great education and resources about therapeutic-grade essential oils on this website www.TrueHealingOils.info.

Also, during our Teleclass on Monday, my guest speaker Carla Boissonault did a FABULOUS job offering a solid plan and many shortcuts to help you make this holiday season stress-less, easier
and more enjoyable for you. I myself walked away with some great tips that I know YOU will really love. I received many emails from people who missed the class, asking if they could
listen to the recording. I know this recording will benefit so many people on my list, so I decide to send this one out to all of you. I hope you find it valuable.

Hueina Su Was Invited Keynote Speaker at Northeast Regional Oncology Nursing (NERON) Conference

PRESS RELEASE

Hueina Su, a certified empowerment coach, keynote speaker, author and founder of Beyond Horizon Coaching of Denville, New Jersey, was the keynote speaker at the Northeast Regional Oncology Nursing Conference (NERON), held in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on November 9, 2008. The theme for the event was “Mapping the Journey: Navigating the Tides in Oncology.” The event was attended by over 180 oncology nurses, nursing directors as well as a few medical doctors, medical researchers, and pharmacists from all over New England.

Su started her first career as an RN, and has more than 20 years of experience in nursing, counseling, coaching and training. She is also an adjunct faculty at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (NH) and the County College of Morris (NJ) for nursing continuing education programs. Her keynote address, “Rx for Balance - A Prescription for Creating Balance and Harmony Amidst Chaos,” creatively meshed her experience in nursing with her passion for helping people reduce stress, create life balance and practice Intensive Self-Care. She presented her C.P.R. for Balance™ model (C = choose consciously, P = prioritize by core values, and R = reframe your perspective), which can help people live in the present moment, maintain balance in their lives, attain inner peace, and create a life of their choice.

Su graciously blends her Eastern philosophy and Western training in her presentation, which is filled with anecdotes, humor and practical strategies. With the recent chaos in financial crisis and the accompanying stress, Su’s keynote address was timely and well-received by the audience. Su comments that Self-Care Deficiency Syndrome is reaching epidemic proportion among the general public, particularly the Nurturers such as nurses, moms and family caregivers. She encourages everyone to practice Intensive Self-Care, and “put on your own oxygen mask FIRST.”

One of the strategies Su shared in her keynote was “Stop, Drop and Roll Out of Overwhelm.” This is one of the 7 keys she teaches in her new book Intensive Care for the Nurturer’s Soul: 7 Keys to Nurture Yourself While Caring for Others. The book is set for release later this month. Best-selling author Terri Levine, Ph.D., MCC, calls it “A must read for anyone who is in the role of caregiver.”

Northeast Regional Oncology Nursing (NERON) Conference has been held biennially for the past 30 years by Dartmouth College – Hitchcock Medical Center. It’s the premiere conference for oncology nurses’ continuing education and professional development.

Beyond Horizon Coaching is a coaching and training company specializing in providing solutions for work-life balance, stress management and Intensive Self-Care. November is the National Family Caregivers Month, proclaimed by the President of the United States of America.

National Family Caregivers Month is organized each year by the National Family Caregivers Association and is designated as a time every year to thank, support, educate and empower family caregivers. "This year we are encouraging people to speak up during National Family Caregivers Month." said Suzanne Mintz, NFCA president and co-founder. As a life coach, I work with medical professionals and other Nurturers on stress management, life balance and Intensive Self-Care. Best of Both Worlds
I just came back from a 3-day Abundant Living Retreat hosted by my dear friend, mentor and coach Terri Levine, The Guru of Coaching. What a precious gift that was! I got to spend the entire weekend with Terri (always a treat for me) and a group of AMAZING people who I'm sure will be my friends for a very long time. I learned how to create true abundance in every area of my personal & business lives, and, spent a lot of time to focus on nurturing ME! I got a wonderful massage there, every meal was gourmet food cooked from scratch, the weather was perfect, and the resort was beautiful and serene.

After everyone left, I stayed for an extra 3 hours by myself to contemplate and breathe in what I have learned and experienced this weekend. Well, I didn't plan to stay for that long, but, I had my Nikon digital SLR with me and took pictures as I walked the labyrinth, the lake, the hills, and said good-bye my own way. There's this magnificent tree on the hill that I absolutely love. I decided to walk all the way over there to personally say hi to it. I'm so glad I did! The pictures of the tree I took from different perspectives amazed me and gave me great insight. Photography is one of my true passions. Time disappears when I get to play with my camera. Before I knew it, it was getting dark, and I knew I'd better hit the road. I felt energized, blessed and bursting with joy when I hop in my car and drove home.

I feel like I get to have the BEST of both worlds. SO grateful for my life and for my family! Let me just give you some examples from last week and you'll know what I mean. Last Thursday, I had my coaching session in the morning, stopped by my son's school at lunch to pick up party supplies for the Halloween party, then went home just in time for my radio interview on parenting issues. After that, it was time to pick up my son and daughter from school. Then it was homework, making Halloween goody bags together, dinner, fencing class, etc.

On Friday, I had a coaching call in the morning, then off to my son's school for Halloween party and parade. I'm a class mom this year, and a photographer for the yearbook. The Halloween parade is a BIG deal in my son's school. All the students, teachers, class moms and even the principal dress up in their Halloween best. I wouldn't miss it for anything! After the parade, I hop in my car (with my cat costume) and went straight to PA for the Abundant Living Retreat that I mentioned earlier.

Today, after getting my kids to school, I'm working from my home office, coaching clients by phone, and getting ready for my keynote speech for the Northeast Oncology Nursing Conference (NERON), scheduled for this Sunday November 9th in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The NERON conference has 30 years of history, and attracts 150-250 bedside oncology nurses every year. I will be delivering the keynote on "Rx for Balance: A Prescription for Creating Balance and Harmony Amidst Chaos." It's a timely topic, since this month (November) is also the National Family Caregivers Month. I started my first career as an RN more than 20 years ago, so, needless to say, I'm very honored and excited to deliver this presentation for the NERON conference.

So, you see, my life is a perfect blend of work and play, and I feel blessed to have the BEST of both worlds. Can't get any better than this! Like I said, I am SO grateful for everything in my life! Of course, I have to thank my dear hubby -- without him, I won't be able to pull this off.

How about you? Are you living the BEST of both worlds? If you are, share your story here. I'd love to hear how YOU have done it!

When was the last time you had a retreat for YOU? Practicing Intensive Self-Care on a regular basis is definitely one crucial ingredient in living a well-balanced, joyful life. It doesn't have to be an all-out luxurious weekend retreat. You can choose whatever activity that nurtures YOU physically, emotionally and/or spiritually. Whatever feeds your soul and makes your heart sing, go with it.

Creating your BEST life is not a pipe dream. With clarity, commitment, action, perseverance and a little help from a great coach (me), it is totally possible. It takes the burning desire to live a life you really want, and a little courage to get started. Your life is waiting. Are you ready yet?

P.S. If you are ready, willing and able to invest in YOU and YOUR LIFE, and start making your BEST life come true, contact me to set up a complimentary telephone coaching consult today. Fill out an application at:
http://www.beyondhorizoncoaching.com/introsession.html

P.P.S. My new book Intensive Care for the Nurturer's Soul: 7 Keys to Nurture Yourself While Caring for Others is a great resource and perfect holiday gift for nurses, moms and any caregivers. It's set for release in November. Stay tuned for announcement on this blog.
