Help Babylune Give to Charity
Sunday, March 18th is Mothering Sunday in the UK. Mother's Day in the US and Canada is on Sunday, May 13th. In honor of mothers, Kate Baggott started a charity initiative at Babylune. She will make a gift on her readers' behalf to a charity that supports women and children.

For every 1,000 page views on her blog between Mothering Sunday and Mothers' Day (57 days), she will donate $1.00 to the cause you choose in the poll (see her post). According to Kate, Babylune usually serves up about 1000 pages a day, and sometimes twice as many when she runs a charity drive.

So, hop over there now and support a charity drive for women & children.

It's About Time: Time Management for Busy Moms

Remember that old song: "Time..... is on my side. Yes it is!"

Wouldn't it be nice, if that was true?

Unfortunately, most moms I know and work with these days are "up to here" with work, projects, responsibilities, obligations, housework, kids' homework, after-school activities, volunteer commitments, ...... the list goes on and on and on. You get the picture: over-scheduled, over-worked, overwhelmed. You can barely keep your head above the water.

Then there are other time management challenges: you are procrastinating, disorganized, distracted, interrupted all the time, not doing the "first things first", etc. As a result, you are always scrambling to finish your project at last minute. Or worse, you keep putting off that important task that's crucial for your success, and you wonder why you just can't bring yourself to finish it?

No wonder you are so stressed out!!!

Don't worry. Help is on the way.

This month, I've invited my good friend and colleague Heather Clarke-Peckerman, M.A., CEC as our guest speaker.

I'm Thinking, but I'm Not Growing Rich!
Why Belief Systems Can Keep A Person In A State Of Lack
by spiritual teacher from "The Secret" - Bob Doyle
(This article was originally published at About Holistic Healing March 2003)

So you've read Think and Grow Rich, and you've got an intellectual understanding that you "become what you think about."You have a list of affirmations about wealth, and you recite them every day.

But you still have no money Wealth does not seem to be anywhere around.

What's the deal here? According to Napoleon Hill, author of Think & Grow Rich, you ought to be filthy stinkin' rich, right?

Well, here is the real deal: If you are not "Wealth Conscious", than all this thinking, and all this affirming is not going to bring you wealth. Thinking, and affirming are simply actions you are taking.

But they are just PART of the sequence of creating wealth. If you skip the FIRST step, you simply can't get anywhere.

So what's the first step?

Being.

To attract wealth, you first have to BE wealthy. THEN, you think wealthy thoughts, speak wealthy affirmations, and take wealthy action.

"But how can I BE wealthy if I am NOT wealthy?" you ask. Logical question, but it's based on the false assumption that you don't have wealth. You HAVE wealth. You're simply not aware of it. You have constructed a physical reality that prevents you from experiencing Wealth. This can all be explained with the science of Quantum Physics. So let's look at some very basic concepts of Quantum Physics that will explain what I'm talking about.

First, you probably are aware - at least on an intellectual level - that at a subatomic level, we, and everything else in the Universe, is Energy. When you break everything down, we're all made of the same stuff, and we're all connected. The Universe is just this huge ocean of Energy, vibrating at various frequencies which gives the illusion of individuation. That is, we experience the illusion of separateness from each other, physical objects, and wealth because our "senses" are decoding the Energy around us in such a way as to create our physical reality.

This all happens in our thoughts.

So, to simplify things quickly here for the sake of time (another illusion), "things" only exist because we observe them. It is in our observing that things come into existence. Without our observing, things are simply "waves" - probabilities of existence. Physicists agree on this.

Our beliefs are a very powerful Energy system in our lives. Our beliefs allow or disallow certain experiences in our lives, including wealth. They make up who we are. We "BE" in the world according to our beliefs. If we are being is "someone who is trying to get wealthy by repeating affirmations," then THAT is what our reality will be. We will just be TRYING to get wealthy.

We have to make the decision that we ARE wealthy, contrary to any external physical evidence. That evidence is an illusion based on the belief systems that have guided who we have been being up to that point.

A truly wealthy person isn't wealthy because they have money. They have money, because they are wealthy! That's the distinction that most people have backward!

Here's an example to illustrate what I mean:

Tony Robbins became a millionaire at a very young age. Then, due to a series of poor judgments, he lost it. But within a year, he had it back. How did he do this? HE NEVER LOST HIS WEALTH. He only lost his money, which is just a symbol of wealth! Because he is "Wealth Conscious", he literally "magnetically attracts" wealth into his life. He truly can't help it! It's who he is! And there are thousand out there like him, who attract wealth simply because it's who they are. You can make the same decision and have the same results.

Conversely, a person who has grown up with "lack consciousness" can win millions in the lottery and lose it within a year. Their consciousness - their ENERGY - simply can't maintain the attraction to Wealth because they aren't "wealthy" in who they are being.

Wealth is a Decision

But again, Wealth is a decision. If you aren't currently experiencing wealth, you first need to realize that abundance is everywhere...in fact it's all there is. Poverty and lack are the illusions. You can shift your consciousness to Wealth - BE Wealth - by simply making the decision, THEN your thoughts, speech, and action will allow you to experience the wealth that is yours!

This is indeed a complex subject which challenges our core belief systems. But it is those very belief systems that keep a person in a state of lack. Look at your financial situation today. Look at your core beliefs about Wealth and You, and see if your life isn't a PERFECT reflection of your beliefs. Then, look where those beliefs may have originated. When you can awaken to yourself that your beliefs create your reality, rather than the other way around, you have the option to truly be free to experience a reality of prosperity that you deserve!

About The Author: Bob Doyle is the founder of Boundless Living and the producer of the "Wealth Beyond Reason" workshop - a complete course in creating wealth using the principles of Quantum Physics. He is one of the featured teachers in the Law of Attraction DVD "The Secret."

Carnival of Healing #78: Blossom into More
Welcome to Carnival of Healing #78: Blossom into More.

Carnival of Healing is a weekly round-up of personal Web sites and blogs on the topics of holistic health, wellness, spirituality, and self empowerment. In honor of the first day of Spring (March 21) and my upcoming birthday, I decided to choose a spring-like title for this edition of the Carnival of Healing.

Spring, to me, signifies renewal, growth and hope. There is also a tremendous sense of empowerment to observe how the entire planet and its creatures "come back to life", so to speak, after a brutal winter. Even the tiniest of seed holds the power and potential within to sprout and grow into something spectacular. As human beings, we have more options and choices than plants and most animals in the nature. We ought to celebrate and harness the power within us, to heal ourselves and make this world a better place. I'd like to share with you a quote I came across the other day.

"You are built not to shrink down to less
but to blossom into more."
-- Oprah Winfrey

I hope you allow your self and your life to grow into full bloom.

OK, let's look at the fantastic submissions we received this week!

Health & Healing

As we sprung 1 hour forward, Michele at American Inventor Spot declared "I'm Turning My Clock Back!" The biological clock, that is. She wrote an extensive introduction of a free online health test called "The RealAge Test". It's no ordinary health test, because Real Age measures your "real age" by comparing your measurements (blood test results), life style, health habits & family history against more than 25,000 medical records on disease and aging. It also tells you what changes you could make, if your life style or genetics put you at higher risks for certain diseases. There's a lot more to it, so read Michele's post to get all the scoop about this valuable service.

Liz Smith at Modern Sage Online: Practical Living Blog presents "Expert Q & A: Post-Stroke Exercise". She invited Tai Chi expert Carolyn Cooper to share the benefits of using Tai Chi practice as a post-stroke exercise. Carolyn stated, "Tai Chi’s uniquely multidimensional benefits put it in a class by itself as far as comprehensive benefits". Furthermore, studies showed that Tai Chi improved stroke survivors' balance, stability and social and general functioning.

Jennifer Rog at Reiki Advice presents "Cleansing your Mind, Body and Spirit". She recommended using visualization combined with your favorite bath products to turn your morning shower and evening bath into cleansing and healing practice.

Henrik Edberg at The Positivity Blog introduces belly breathing in "Here is a Quick Way to Better Breathing". He stated, "I've noticed that belly breathing makes me feel more energized and clearheaded. It also brings a sense of calmness and sweeps away negative mental chatter."

Ananga at Ananga Sivyer's Living by Design Blog presents "Breathing for Beginners". She wrote, "Your breathing is a bridge between your body and your mind. To allow your breathing to remain unconscious and automatic is to exist in a realm where that bridge is obstructed." In this article she outlined a 4-step daily practice to "educate your lungs" about deep diaphragmatic breathing.

Shelley Fondren, CMT at Massage, Mind and Body teaches us how to "Protect Your Gut with Bacteria". As the nasty stomach flu goes around, Shelley recommends hand-washing and taking probiotics supplements. Probiotics are live microorganisms or bacteria that are administered in doses which provide a beneficial health effect on the digestive system. Read Shelley's post to learn more about their benefits.

Aparna at Beauty and Personality Grooming introduced the "Medicinal Value of Gooseberry (Amla)", stating, Amla "has the highest quantity of vitamin C in natural form, much more than orange". She listed many uses of this versatile berry in this article.

Ybother presents "Top 10 Signs of Cancer" at A Top Ten List Everyday to Jumpstart Your Knowledge. Ybother wrote, "An estimated 80 million people will comprise an age group of 65 years and older by the year 2050. Currently 60% of all cancers occur in persons over 65 years of age, and cancer in older people is becoming more common, with an estimated 80% in this population by 2050. Here are Top 10 signs for you to check on".

Hershel Miller presents "Chakra-Neuroendocrinology #1: Hormones" at Kundalini Yoga & Chakras Balancing, Chakra Healing Resource. Hershel wrote, "Chakra-Neuroendocrinology is the study of the chakra energy system in relation to the central nervous system and endocrine system" and gave an overview of this subject in this article.

Alvaro Fernandez at Sharp Brains presents "Training the brain with a computer workout program: MindFit". Alvaro stated, "(MindFit is) a natural and non-drug program to improve memory and concentration". And, according to Scientific American, "Training the brain with a computer workout program may be better than classic computer games at staving off age-related mental decline, scientists reported on Friday."

Inspiration

Raymond David Salas at ZenChill.com Power Tools Blog presents "Shortcuts for a Happy Life". Raymond asked, “Is there a shortcut or "cheat sheet" for all this "Law of Attraction" and “The Secret” stuff that everyone is talking about these days?” Of course, there are always more than one way of doing things! Raymond shared his own daily Law of Attraction "cheat sheet" or "CliffsNotes to the Universe" in this article, including "be grateful", "surrender the day", "meditate", "say present. be inspired", "begin again, whenever necessary", and "forgive the past".

Andrea Hess at Living Intuition wrote a thought-provoking entry called "Mistaking Our Identity". She reminds us, "All the things we do in our lives, our occupations and hobbies and practices, are simply tools through which we express ourselves, expand ourselves, discover ourselves. They are not who we are. It stands to reason that we should take inventory from time to time: “Is this tool still serving me as the most appropriate expression of who I am today?”

Craig Harper at Craig Harper: Motivational Speaker shared a beautiful, heartfelt personal story, reminding us to focus on "What Really Matters", and not let any "small stuff" in life get in the way of connecting with the people/things we love the most.

Joice at Joysoriano.com presents When You're in Pain. Joice stated, "(This is) an article on how we can deal with the awful feeling of brokenness, how we can start to move on, and how we can learn to smile again." Read about the 9 tips she offers to move forward in the painful times.

Ruth Mitchell at Buy Outside the Box presents "Seeking the Light". She shared the tragic story of how her beloved pet was maliciously injured, and urged us to "Fight the darkness, create, play or anything to follow the light. Live this day like it was your last, for it is in this way that we stave off the dark."

Personal Development

Scott Davis at Finding Your Marbles presents "Ten Minutes Therapy", in which he shared a quick & effective way to change your negative emotions. Using principles he learned from cognitive behavioral therapy, Scott outlined the step-by-step process that you can easily do within 10 minutes to change your emotions and perspective. Check it out!

Paula Kawal presents "Meeting Needs Without Repeating Patterns" at PaulaKawal.com. Most of us have experienced or seen others repeating certain behavior patterns that simply don't work for our/their best interest, yet we don't know how to break the pattern. Paula laid out a 5-step process to help us identify the hidden needs behind the behavior pattern, and how to meet the needs by changing the perspective and behavior.

Patricia at A Better You Blog presents "Immediate Gratification". She urged us to "Stop living under the control of your impulses, and determine to respond to life with strength and character".

Albert Foong at Urban Monk presents Personal Development and Happiness Tools: Forgiveness, Part One. He wrote about the "thorns" that are "emotional wounds; previous hurts and memories that sit in your heart and mind, forcing you to relive previous hurts and memories. Because of them, you behave in ways that are not yourself - in more severe cases you hurt other people, and you ruin your lives. To remove these thorns requires forgiveness and love."

The last one in this category is "Take Time for Friendships" posted at my blog Intensive Care for the Nurturer's Soul. As I navigated through school, career, marriage and motherhood, I became more and more appreciative and grateful for my old friends. No matter how busy you are, I hope you take time to nurture the significant friendships in your life.

Other Gems

Lola London at L'undone presents "1. Tell me a story, Jackanory...". In her own words, this is the first chapter of "a tale of high-weirdness, big love, cyber-crime and the mutual insane obsession of two people that never even met. This blog is the true story of how it happened and how I got through it."

That's all for this week. A heartfelt Thank You to everyone who participated in this week's Carnival. Next week the Carnival of Healing will be at OptimistLab.

High-tech & Low-tech Ways to Focus on What You Want
written by Kathy Atkinson, EFT-ADV, Keys to Success

The other day my daughter was showing me all the features on her new cell phone. It is absolutely amazing what you can do with that small object. She can take pictures, wake herself up with an alarm, calculate the waiters tip and even make phone calls.

That experience, and some others I have had recently, got me to thinking about how we can activate the Law of Attraction to bring us what we want by taking advantage the new technology we have available. Below are some hi-tech suggestions for Affirmations, Vision Boards and for expressing Gratitude and Appreciation. I have also included low-tech suggestions for those who may be techno-challenged.

Affirmations

Affirmations are a great way to stay focused on what you want to manifest in your life.

Hi-tech suggestions:

My daughter's cell phone has the capability of recording a message, so if your phone has the same technology, I thought it would be a great idea to record your affirmations or inspirations. Then set the alarm to go off every hour, so you can listen to your affirmations throughout the day. One great way to stay focused on what you want. Most newer computers have microphones included, so you can record your affirmations right on the computer. You can listen to them on the computer or burn them to a CD and play them in the car or CD player.

Low-tech suggestion:

The low-tech way would be to write out your affirmations on 3x5 cards, set your oven timer to go off every hour and read your affirmations aloud throughout the day.

Vision Boards

If you prefer pictures to help keep you focused on what you want, vision boards are a fun activity that the whole family can get involved with.

Hi-tech suggestion:

This hi-tech idea came from teleclass participant, Tecca Thompson. She is the author of S.E.E.D: Successfully Empower Each Dad and The Responsible Young Fathers Program: Parenting Classes for Young Incarcerated Fathers. Tecca sent me a copy her "Vision-Board" Power Point presentation. It is an awesome 36 slide presentation that includes pictures and affirmations. It is very cool.

The time and attention giving to this kind of project has to amplify the Law of Attraction big time. Tecca added pictures of the experiences she wants to have, pictures of places she wants to visit, a picture of the puppy she would like and she even has a bank statement in her name with the amount of money she wants to have. You can run a power point presentation as a slide show and view it every morning and evening or better yet, set your phone alarm to remind you to view it every hour. This is another great way to take advantage of the technology that we have at our disposal.

Low-tech suggestion:

As great as that idea is, you can still create a vision board the old fashion way. Get a poster board, some catalogs and colored markers, and create a collage of all the experiences you want to attract and manifest.

Gratitude & Appreciation

Everyone enjoys being recognized and appreciated for the small things. Taking the time to acknowledge and appreciate others sets you up to experience even more positive experiences. Commit to incorporating one of the following suggestions everyday.

Hi-tech suggestions:

Have you seen the TV commercial with the family sitting around the dinner table text messaging each other? Looks silly and I am surprised at how popular that activity is. My thought is, "why not just call?"

If you are into text messaging, why not send messages of gratitude and appreciation. Catch someone in the act of doing something nice or helpful. This is especially useful if you have kids and want to stay in touch with them in a positive and uplifting way.

If you have an answering machine, most have a way to record a message. Look for the memo button and record your message of appreciation for someone to "discover" when he or she arrives home.

Low-tech suggestions:

Post a calendar on the refrigerator and commit to writing down daily what you love, appreciate or admire about the people in your family. It is a fun activity to get the whole family involved in.

Use post-it-notes and place "gratitude notes" where your loved one will find it...on their pillow, in their wallet or purse, on the steering wheel, etc.

Action Challenge

Focused attention activates the Law of Attraction in your favor. Choose the hi-tech or low-tech ideas that get you excited.Get the entire family involved and have fun seeing who can come up with the most creative way to stay focused on what they want to manifest.

Quotes

"It is the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen." Claude M. Bristol

"Nothing happens unless first we dream." Carl Sandburg

"Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary." Margaret Cousins

Affirmations

Today I will have fun affirming my deepest desires.

Today I will visualize my ideal life.

Today I will acknowledge and appreciate everyone in my life.

1. Welcome & Announcements

As we are approaching the first day of Spring, I hope you and your family are doing well. Last month my family and I were down with a flu for two weeks. We were not alone. I heard that there was a record high of children absent at my children's schools last month. If you were wondering why you didn't receive the 2nd issue of my February newsletter, that's because I decided to take a little "newsletter vacation" to take care of myself and my family. If you are under the weather, I hope you give yourself permission to call in sick (especially if you're a stay-at-home mom), and get all the rest you need to recover. Good work ethic is important, however, it really doesn't benefit anyone when you don't recover ASAP and cannot function at 100%.

March is Women's History Month, and March 8th was the International Women's Day. It's time to review our history, and kick into action to empower women all over the world.

It is my personal mission and passion to empower women nurturers as well as the next generation women leaders. Last month I was invited to speak at a women's empowerment community action project for Dress for Success. The event was organized by the Professional Women's Group under Dress for Success Morris County Chapter, and benefited the residents of three nearby women's shelters. Dress for Success is dedicated to women's self-sufficiency, and has more than 75 chapters all over US, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom.

This month I received an invitation to be the first speaker for a new gynocological cancer support group of the American Cancer Society Asian Initiatives New Jersey. I will present a workshop for them on April 7, 2007. I will also present a workshop at the 17th Annual Morristown Women's Festival on May 12, 2007. This year's theme is "Claiming Our Birthright". If you live in NY/NJ area, make sure you come out for a full day of workshops and festivities celebrating women.

I am also working on the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO) Essex Chapter's Diversity Committee to organize their 2nd Annual NJAWBO Essex Diversity Networking Luncheon on June 12, 2007. Our theme is "Women of New Jersey, Celebrate Your Diversity.... and Grow Your Business". This event will raise awareness of diversity among women business owners and corporate sponsors, recruit more minority women business owners for NJAWBO, and part of the proceeds will benefit New Jersey Coalition for Battered Women (NJCBW).

There are many opportunities in your community that you can participate to empower other women. Start with the groups that you already belong to, for example, MOMS Club, PTA, your church, your company, Rotary Club, Toast Masters, Chamber of Commerce, etc. Or join a worthwhile charity/organization in your area.

By the way, did you check out the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Campaign last month? Did you request your FREE Red Dress Pin? I've just received my pin last week. If you have received yours, wear it proudly to raise awareness for women's heart health. If you haven't requested your own pin, what are you waiting for? Go and read about Go Red for Women, and join the movement to protect your health and your loved one's too! If you would like to suggest a future Teleclass topic and/or speaker, please email me and let me know. Please feel free to email me anytime, if you have any questions, comments, or need support working toward your goals.

This is the month of March after all. So, march boldly toward your goals and dreams. I give you all green lights!

* March Madness Special *

From now until the end of March, I am offering a special Buy-One-Get-One-Free discount for new private coaching clients.

This month, I've invited my good friend and colleague Heather Clarke-Peckerman, MA, CEC as our guest speaker. Heather is an executive coach, consultant, entrepreneur, and a super busy mom of two young boys. She will share with you proven tips on how to take back your life and put more meaning and purpose into everything you do.For more details and to register for this Teleclass, click here

I've received overwhelming responses to our February Teleclass "Make Up Your Mind And Move Forward: Decision-Making Strategies for the Indecisive". A big Thank You to everyone who attended the live call, and/or sent in your questions & comments. The recording of this Teleclass is available on our website now. You can download the MP3 and worksheet by visiting the Teleclass Archives.

A friend of mine sent me this really cool game. For the engineers or mathematician alike, you might enjoy calculating the exact angle/degrees to shoot the basket. For me, I'm just doing it for fun! Enjoy!

Check out Jen Singer's MamaSaid.net-- "The Stay-at-Home Mom's Coffee Break". She has a refreshing and humorous take on the stay-at-home motherhood. She has a book, a mom blog and not-to-be-missed Mama-Logue, short monologue videos that's funny, silly, and sometimes makes you laugh until you cry! They say "Laughter is the best medicine". MamaSaid definitely supplies plenty of Rx for ANY moms, not just stay-at-home moms. For best result, shake it before you take it, and repeat as necessary.

Take Time for Friendships

I remember reading a story about a mom telling her soon-to-be-married daughter to never let go of her girlfriends. At first the daughter thought she wouldn't need her girlfriends any more, since she was going to become a wife, and have her own family very soon. She did, however, heed her mom's advice. She kept in touch with her girlfriends over the years, and as she grew older (and wiser), she became more and more appreciative of her mom's advice and her girlfriends.

I, for one, can totally relate to that story.

My own mother, who loves me dearly, gave me a very different advice, though, before I became a mom myself. She told me, "Be prepared to sacrifice at least 10 years of your life for this baby". Yes, sacrifice. That's the exact word she used. I looked at her and nodded, like a good girl I've always been, but, the "rebelling" part of me was like "Sacrifice? 10 years? No way! What about me? What about my life???"

I know that "self-sacrifice" is a virtue in my culture (I wrote an article about this before), and my parents totally subscribe to that value. My mother basically cut off her ties with all her friends when she got married, partially because she thought that was "the right thing" to do, and partially because she was too busy helping my father's practice and raising the three of us. She took pride in being a "good mother" (she is a great mother, in fact), but, even as a young child, I could see her lonliness. There's a void in her heart that even her picture-perfect family couldn't fill.

So, on that day when my mother offered her motherly advice, I nodded in appreciation for her love, but knew that that's one advice I would not take. I knew deep in my heart of hearts that, I will love my children like no one else will love them, but, there's some part of me and my life I will not "sacrifice". My friendship with my friends is one of those things.

Over the years, I've made many dear friends, in school, at work, and through my children's friends. Some of my oldest friends have gone through the same life transitions as I did: college, graduate school, career, marriage, kids, 2nd career, etc. We've been through a lot together and separately. The guys who used to play tennis with me till sundown every weekend, are now playing a bigger game in the business world. The girls who used to play dress up with dreamy eyes, have since put on career suits or are busy dressing up their lovely kids. We used to travel to scenic spots and pose for each other's photographic "masterpiece"; now most pictures we take are about our own kids (most of my friends even leave themselves out of the holiday photo greeting cards).

We don't always keep in touch very often (you know how busy motherhood/fatherhood can be), and some of us don't even live on the same continent any more, but we've somehow managed to still keep each other "around" in our lives. You know the kind of friends who you can pick up the phone to talk to, after not hearing from each other for years, and still feel like you've never been apart? I was overjoyed when one of my best friends in high school got in touch with me (thank goodness for Internet), after we'd lost touch for more than 10 years!! It was such a precious gift to have her back in my life. We've got a lot of catching up to do, needless to say.

Last month, I was invited to speak at a local MOMS Club. This brought back SO many memories! There was a time when my husband and I moved a lot due to his job. We'd lived in 4 different states in 6 calendar years. When we made the move from Maryland to Delaware, I had to give up my career as a counselor, and we both made the decision that I would stay home for a while to take care of our 8-month old baby girl. When we moved, we only knew one couple in the state of Delaware, who lived half an hour away from us. I was totally unprepared for the transition from full-time working mom to full-time stay-at-home mom with my first baby, in a new city where we knew nobody, and our families hundreds of miles away. I missed my own office, my lunch break, my colleagues & friends, my paycheck, but most of all, my freedom. I was lonely and exhausted. Then one day I saw a flyer in the grocery store about MOMS Club, and that changed my life. I was so fortunate to have found a small group of moms with similar education & background (we were all professional women who decided to stay home for our first baby), and our babies were only a month or two apart. The weekly playgroup and the friendship I formed with these moms became my life-savor. We all went on to have our second (some of us had the third) child, and although most of us moved away after a couple years, most of us kept in touch and remained good friends till today (my daughter is 11 years old this year).

It's a rare gift in life to have good friends like that. I'm very blessed and grateful to have many in my life. How about you? Do you have friends you can lean on? Do you stay in touch with your dearest friends? Do you have some long lost friends that you would like to re-connect? Or, would you like to make some new friends who share your life experiences, passion or values? What are you waiting for? Life is too short.

"We will meet again my friend,
A hundred years from today
Far away from where we lived
And where we used to play.
We will know each others' eyes
And wonder where we met
Your laugh will sound familiar
Your heart, I won't forget.
We will meet,
I'm sure of this,
But let's not wait till then...
Let's take a walk beneath the stars
And share this world again."
-- Ron Atchison

Don't wait any longer. We're all extremely busy. When do you think you will actually have "free time" to connect with your friends? You've got to "make time" for friendships -- nurture the old ones and cultivate the new ones.

When you think of a friend, pick up the phone or drop him/her a quick note. It doesn't have to be elaborate, either. While a handmade card will be treasured for a long time, a quick email to say "hello, I miss you" would be appreciated as well.

Make a point to make a coffee or lunch date with your good friends. I usually try to have at least one of these dates a month. Just seeing them on my calendar makes me so happy. Occasionally I go out for a Girls Night Out. Since my kids were very little, they knew that Mommy needed her "playdate" just as much as they needed theirs. I always come home energized and happier, and the good mood could last for days or even weeks.

If you've ever gone out with your girlfriends, I'm sure your husband noticed the difference when you came home. That's a good reason to convince him that you should take turns to go out with your own friends, on a somewhat regular basis. It's good for your mental well-being as well as your relationship at home. If you don't have a partner to watch your kids, try to hire a sitter or team up with another mom, so you can spend some quality time with your friends sans your kids. Even though you and your friends might still spend your time talking about your kids, spending time with your friends alone will definitely lift your spirit.

It takes efforts to maintain friendships, of course. It's not always easy, especially when you've got a full plate already, but the investment in friendship is well worth it in the long run.

Be the one to reach out to your friends. Make a small (or grand) gesture to show that you are thinking of them today. Both you and your friends will thank you for that.

Intensive Self-Care Tips: check out MamaSaid
One important practice of Intensive Self-Care is taking mini breaks throughout the day to refresh and recharge yourself. Having a good laugh will increase your serotonin level (translation: makes you feel good), reduce stress, and energize you both physically and emotionally.

Check out Jen Singer's MamaSaid.net-- "The Stay-at-Home Mom's Coffee Break". Jen has a refreshing and humorous take on the stay-at-home motherhood. She has a book "14 Hours 'Til Bedtime", Momma Blog and Momma-Heard (her point of view at what's in the news).

My personal favorite is the not-to-be-missed Mama-Logue, short monologue videos that's funny, silly, and sometimes makes you laugh until you cry! Well, if you're already crying or feel like crying after a LONG day, this will certainly cheer you up!

They say "Laughter is the best medicine". MamaSaid definitely supplies plenty of Rx for ANY moms, not just stay-at-home moms. For best result, shake it before you take it, and repeat as necessary. :-)

FREE Teleclass for Busy Moms

Heather is an organization development consultant specializing in Leadership Development, Training and Executive Coaching using Emotional Intelligence. Heather is the Owner/President of HCP Consulting Group, LLC for the past eight years.
